The cruise line’s third Excel-class ship, Carnival Jubilee will share features from her sister ships, Mardi Gras, sailing from Port Canaveral since mid-2021, and Carnival Celebration, based in Miami since 2022. This ship was originally ordered for German cruise line AIDA Cruises, but a change of plans by parent company Carnival Corporation means that Carnival Jubilee will now join the Carnival fleet in 2023. The third ship in Carnival’s Excel Class, Carnival Jubilee, will launch in 2023. This ship will be almost identical to Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration. Carnival Jubliee will sail out of Galveston, Texas offering week-long Caribbean itineraries. With new ships being launched at a rate close to one per year, it can be hard to keep track of which are the newest ships. Carnival Celebration had people talking before they even got their first look.

The bar — along with several other dining venues and the onboard shops — wasn't open during my two-night sailing prior to the ship's first voyage with paying passengers. But each time I passed by it in Grand Central, one of the ship's six zones, I couldn't help staring. The Mardi Gras is a ship belonging to Carnival’s Excellence Class, also known as Excel Class, and is the sister ship of Carnival Celebration. With a capacity of 5,282 passengers based on double occupancy, it is named after a former Carnival cruise ship that sailed for two decades. The Miss Dominican Republic, Kimberly Jiménez, is the ship’s godmother. You know we definitely see our share of coastal areas, so it’s easy to imagine how special a place it is to us.

In addition to the vintage references, a well-executed ocean theme is carried throughout the ship. It starts with The Atlantic and The Pacific, the names of Carnival Jubilee's two main dining rooms. They feature light fixtures befitting the Great Hall at Hogwarts Castle and look as if they contain water bubbles. The vessel's original bell and ship plaque, both from 1986, are on display.
The 140,600-gross ton ship carries 3,260 guests in double occupancy, and is operating alternating 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries. Celebrity Ascent is the fourth vessel in the line’s Edge class, and features the popular Magic Carpet, a movable cantilevered deck that functions as a restaurant and bar. As a professional traveler, it's not a huge surprise that one of my favorite public areas on the ship is the travel-themed The Gateway. The Latitudes Bar called my name with its seatbacks decorated with faux passport stamps and split-flap departure board signage.
